Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

Lest we forget, pay our respects,

To the women and men who served our land.

They heard the call, they marched in time,

For our country gave their lives lest we forget.

Going from their homes and families they saw the job

That needed to be done away in distant lands.

For the sake of freedom, freedom everywhere,

The sons and daughters of Australia were there.

From ANZAC Cove to the trenches of the Somme they bravely fought

And through Kokada’s muddy mountains battled on,

From the jungles of Vietnam, to Korea, Afghanistan,

We celebrate their lives, we thank them one and all.

2017 WA Massed Choir Festival

The Western Australian Massed Choir Festival is the largest choral festival held in Western Australia due to its popularity with all schools involved and is a magnificent showcase of excellence in primary choral music. This year the festival is moving location for the 1st time since 1994 and will be held at Perth Concert Hall. Held over 7 nights, this year the Senior Choir will be performing on Saturday night, the 16th September. Students will also be involved in 2 rehearsals during school time. Our conductors for the evening are Mrs Mary-Anne Goyder and Mrs Mirelle Hopwood. Our school will be performing with Baldivis Gardens, Beechboro, Carlisle, Forest Crescent, Forrestfield, Inglewood, Lake Gwelup, Melville, Willeton and Wilson Park Primary School. The students are backed by a live band and string quartet.

Today all Senior Choir students were given a CD to take home. It is theirs to keep and includes every song we will be learning. The lyrics will be added to the Google Drive in the next few days (there is also a link from their secret choir page on here). The lyrics and other important information of interest may also be found on the festival website . The password for the student page is carpetofsilver. Choir students have been told to play their CD’s on their laptops, their CD players, in the car, to take it on their holidays and that if their parents don’t know every word of every song by September that they aren’t playing them enough.

The night will be hosted by 2 student comperes and will also feature a number of soloists. Each participating school can only send one student to audition for these roles. Aubin Grove was lucky enough to have a compere chosen in 2015 and a soloist for last years commisioned song. As I am only able to send one student, I will be holding lessons during lunchtimes in Term 2 to teach the compere and solo parts and to audition students who are interested. Students wishing to be selected for a solo or compere role must be available to audition on Saturday 5th August at the Instrumental Music School Services (formerly SIM) in Maylands. The solo parts are at the end of the CD.

Junior Choir Harmony Day Performance

On Sunday March 26th, the Junior Choir had their very first performance on stage for 2017. After only 4 rehearsals, we took our spot onstage at the Honeywood Harmony Day Festival.

We performed and sang our little hearts out to “True Colours” by Cyndi Lauper and “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars. We even braved the wind and rain while on stage too.

Many thanks to all of the families for supporting our first performance. Thank you for taking the time out on a Sunday to come and watch us shine on stage!

We have already been invited to come back and perform again for the 2018 Harmony Day Festival.

Music Spectacular Excursion Note for Senior Choir

Permission form & note

Dear Parents / Guardians,

On 4 April the Senior Choir students will be performing at Lakeland SHS & Cockburn Schools Music Spectacular at Mount Pleasant Baptist Community College.

Aubin Grove Primary School will only perform in the matinee show along with Hammond Park Primary School, Success Primary School and Atwell Primary School. We will be performing 2 songs, Humble & Kind (featuring Amber & Ethan) and Diamonds (featuring Alayna).

Tickets are still available from Lakelands Senior High School. There are no door sales.

We will depart school by bus at 10:30am and arrive back at school by approximately 2.30pm. The cost of the bus will be $4. Please read the attached consent form carefully and return your money and permission slip by Friday, 31st March.

Students are required to wear their school uniform for the event. They must wear their purple school shirts, school shorts or skorts and their school jacket if needed.

Students will not be able to order their lunch on the day of the event. Students will have lunch at the venue before performing. They will be taking their school bags to the event, which should only have their lunch and water bottle inside. MacBooks should be left at home on this day. Please ensure that your child does not bring any valuables as bags will be unattended while we are performing and other students from participating schools will be sharing the same space backstage.

The Music Blog is a helpful source of information for Senior Choir Students and parents. The students have a secret choir page they can access with the password “sing”. This is where they will find a link to the Google Drive with all of the songs we are learning. Copies of notes or information sent home will also be available on the blog. The address is: http://aubingroveps.wa.edu.au/music
