Term 4 update

This term we are looking at Poetry in English. We have studied the differences between fixed and free verse poetry, while learning about some famous poets including Sylvia Plath and Dorothea Mackellar. We have enjoyed applying our understanding of figurative language to help us in both reading and writing our own poems. We have also been learning about rhythm patterns and rhyme scheme. Check out some of our samples below:

In Maths, we are studying viewpoints, the Cartesian Plane, financial maths and translations.

Leadership in action:

Last term, a group of Year 6 students met with the Early Childhood Team to discuss an ‘ideal’ cubby house. Our Naturescape Playground now features a ‘tiny town’ consisting of an ice cream shop, a house, a Police station and a fix- it shop. The Year 6s helped to determine the features of the cubbies as well as the physical appearance/colours etc. We were thrilled to visit the cubbies this week and see the planning process come to life!

Interschool News

We are incredibly proud of our school and all students involved in the Interschool Athletics Carnival last week. Our school won both the Interschool shield and the Team Games shield. We are also incredibly proud of Connor from our class, who received Runner Up Champion Boy for Year 6. Awesome work Connor!

It was fantastic to see the involvement from Room 10 for our Book Week celebrations! The costumes were OUTSTANDING!!

Thank you to all of our families and friends who came to look at our classroom during Open Night. It was a great turn out and fantastic to share our hard work with you!

Atwell College Applications for Year 7

Atwell College visited on Thursday to talk to the year 6’s about Year 7 at Atwell College in 2018. They have asked that all application enrolments forms for students who will be attending next year be returned to the College by Friday 24th September. If your child did not bring one home the other day and they require one, please let me know, as we have a couple of spares.

It was mentioned at the meeting that when you return the completed forms, you are asked to do this in person and take all original documentation they ask for with you as they will photocopy them onsite. Otherwise you are required to have all documentation certified before taking in the application.

Atwell College Enrolments

Atwell College enrolment packages, as well as uniform information, have gone home with students today. Please be aware that the due date for this has changed to Friday 13th October.

National eSmart Week

Last week was National eSmart Week. All the Year 4 to 6 classes participated in one activity to reinforce their Cyber Safety messages from Term 1. The Year Sixes decided to join together and were given the task of designing an ‘eSmart Tattoo’. With the understanding that a tattoo is permanent, we wanted to apply this to the message that ‘what goes online, stays online’. It can not be deleted.

Working in groups of 3, with a student from each class, Year Sixes were challenged to design a logo and come up with a catchy motto to reinforce the eSmart messages they have learned about.

Below you will see some of the finished works! We have laminated these and placed them on our laptops as a constant reminder.

Here is also a handy reminder about balancing time online as we approach the spring school holidays.
