Last week the Year 5s headed off to Scitech for the day. It was a fun day with lots of exploration and learning! First, we started in the Planetarium and learned about the solar system and the universe we are a part of. This was a great introduction to what we will be learning about next term in science where we will explore our solar system!
We then moved to an exciting show called ‘Things that Glow.’ It was very interesting to discuss the huge assortment of things we can access that gives us light. The students were extra impressed at Ultra Violet (UV) light and the effect it had on some of the clothes we were wearing (ask us about it!).
After this presentation, we had free time, exploring the range of exciting things Scitech has on offer.
For the final part of the day, we headed to the feature exhibition – ‘Who Dun It?’. Students were faced with a crime scene, set in a zoo, where a security guard had been shot and a prized white rhino had been stolen. We were then asked for our help to solve the crime. Armed with a crime file, students used forensic science evidence such as finger-printing, chromatography, autopsies, footprints and DNA samples to gather evidence and solve this mystery.
