Hi Everyone,

It certainly has been a busy term in Room 28. I can’t believe how quickly the term has flown by. Apologies for the lack of pictures this term. The children have been very busy at work and have been keeping their precious work a surprise for our open night. We cannot wait to show you their amazing progress in our open night next week. 🙂

Thank you to the dads who came in for our father’s day morning tea. The children had a fabulous morning and enjoyed having their fathers visit.

In English, we have been learning about Australian animals and the children cannot wait to show case some of their amazing work. This term, we have read many popular Australian books, such as Wombat stew, Koala Lou and Possum magic. During writing, we have been trying really hard to write a simple sentence, including sounding out our words, using a capital letter to start our sentences, remembering finger spaces between each word and a full stop at the end of a sentence.

In Maths, we have learnt about 3D shapes. The children have recognised many common 3D shapes in our environment. We have been recording information in graphs and interpreting our findings. We have been adding two objects together in many ways and have learnt our rainbow facts to 10. The children have used many strategies to add two numbers together, such as concrete materials, drawing groups of objects and counting up the total amount, using a number line and counting on from the largest number. We will be learning about sharing next week.

In Geography we have been learning about our local area. The children have enjoyed exploring maps and creating their own maps from home to school. They have also designed their own special places and are going to be creating them with construction materials. Thank you to everyone who brought in recycling!

In Science we have been learning about materials and their properties.

We also celebrated outdoor classroom day last week. We sent home nature passports with various tasks for the children to complete with their families. We hope you enjoy working through the tasks together!

Open night will be on Wednesday the 20th of September from 5.30pm – 7pm.

We will also be sending home the children’s progress files on Thursday 21st September.

Book Week Parade will be in Week 10 on Friday the 22nd September. Our theme is Australia.

News next week will be free choice.

Thank you for your continued support with home reading, sight word booklets and news preparation this term. It has had such a positive impact on your child’s learning.

Have a great evening.

Heather 🙂
