R U OK? Day

The entire Aubin Grove Primary School community is invited to wear yellow this Friday, October 13, for R U OK? Day, held in recognition of Mental Health Week.

Supporting our students to develop positive mental health is of paramount importance to us here at Aubin Grove.

This also complements the principles of Fish Philosophy, which is how our school community positively interacts with each other.

Good mental health is vital for life, and children who are mentally healthy are better able to face challenges and have stronger relationships with the people around them.

The KidsMatter team has also planned a number of events to take place on Friday to showcase to our students the different ways to develop positive mental health and wellbeing.

Our senior students will be motivated by Hockeyroo, Ashleigh Nelson, who will present a discussion on chasing personal goals and overcoming challenges.

This will be in addition to a demonstration from Skateboarding WA, who will highlight how exercise and connecting with others can develop a positive mindset.

The Year Two and Three students will work with talented artist, Elle Campbell, to create artwork with the theme of support networks, and the Kindy to Year One group will fire up their energy levels with a Konga dance lesson.

These activities will support the social and emotional learning in our classrooms, as teachers continue with The Big Splash Project this term.

This resource, written by Dr Caroline Goossens and Julie McCormack from Princess Margaret Hospital, highlights students’ understandings about their mental health and what to do if they have problems or concerns.

Delivering these important messages through the classroom will enable children to understand and articulate their thoughts and feelings.

Please speak to your class teacher or check the classroom blogs for further information, and thank you for your continued support of the KidsMatter team.
