Salvation Army Christmas Appeal

Thank you so much to all of the families who have been so generous in donating to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.

Aubin Grove has supported this appeal for many years, but it would not be possible without the generosity of our families who have bought in non-perishable food items.

This year the donations are being collected in partnership with the Kwinana Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.

School chaplain Amberlie Evans said the donations would make a difference to the lives of those who are doing it tough in the community.

Each classroom has their own collection box accompanied by a poster of suggested items, and families still have time to contribute up until Monday, December 11.

Christmas Concert

The end of the 2017 school year is fast approaching, which means that it is almost time for the annual Christmas Concert.

This year the decision has been made to hold the Kindy Christmas Concert as a stand-alone event on Wednesday, December 6.

Kindy students will perform for family members in the undercover area from 5.30-6.30pm.

This concert will be followed by the Pre-Primary to Year 6 concert on Tuesday, December 12, to be held once again on the school oval from 5.30pm.

The Pre-Primary to Year 6 Christmas Concert will this year feature performances by students associated with the theme “I Feel Good”.

Please join us for what is sure to be another entertaining evening.

Important dates

In preparation for the 2018 school year, students will take part in a transition day on the afternoon of Monday, December 11.

This allows children from Kindy right through to Year 5 to spend time with their new teachers and classmates in their 2018 classroom.

On Tuesday, December 12, classes will hold their end-of-year parties, details of which will be communicated by teachers.

On Wednesday, December 13 class reports will be sent home with students.

The last day of school will be held on Thursday, December 14, with the 2018 school year to commence on Wednesday, January 31.

Big Week Out

The current Year 6 group has been rewarded for their hard work from not only this year but during their entire time at Aubin Grove Primary School by attending the Big Week Out last week.

It is also a way to show our appreciation to our Year 6s, who all accept roles and responsibilities as Student Leaders in their final year at our school.

They do a great job and take on these roles above and beyond what they also have to do as students in class.

On the Big Week Out, they enjoyed many fun-filled activities including ice skating, roller skating, a movie, Inflatable World and Lazer Blaze.

The feedback we had from their teachers and proprietors of the places they attended was outstanding.

The fun keeps coming for the Year 6s.

The Graduation Dinner Dance will take place on Tuesday, December 5, and the official graduation ceremony will be held in the undercover area on Friday, December 8.

I would like to say a massive thanks to the parent committee which has worked tirelessly to organise the Dinner Dance scheduled to be held at the East Fremantle Yacht Club.

It promises to be a fantastic night and a great celebration of the students’ time at Aubin Grove.

Meanwhile, the process for selecting the 2018 Head Boy, Head Girl and faction captains is underway.

While all Year 6 students are regarded as leaders and wear a badge indicating that, all students are able to self-nominate for certain specialist roles.

These include Head Boy/Girl and Faction Captains.

This year’s Year 5 students have attended a student leadership day, and of those who self-nominated for either head boy or head girl, their fellow students selected their top-10 contenders.

Those 10 boys and 10 girls have presented a two-minute speech to their Year 5 and 6 peers and teachers, after which preferential voting was conducted.

A similar process is followed in electing the two girls and two boys who will be elected as Faction Captains for each faction, the difference being that any student who self-nominates for those roles will present a speech to their own faction only and there will be no top 10 shortlisting process.

The results of the elections will be communicated to the participating students before being officially announced at the Pre-Primary to Year 6 Christmas Concert on December 12.

Book list collection

Parents who pre-ordered student 2018 booklists and selected school pick-up were able to collect their items from the undercover area on Thursday, November 30.

Staff from Ziggies Educational Supplies attended the school from 2-4pm, during which time the uniform shop was also open.

Any pre-orders not collected will be available from the Ziggies premises in Canning Vale.

Girls multi-sport carnival

After months of training and preparation, two teams of Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Multi-Sport All Girls Cup recently.

The teams, which were prepared by physical education specialist Matthew Paparone, competed in netball, cricket and AFL.

And despite rain threatening, the gala day went ahead at the Success Regional Sporting Complex, with Aubin Grove winning the AFL and cricket shields.

Mr Paparone said he was very proud of the effort from the girls.

“They have been training for months, and all of their hard work was on display for all to see,” he said.
